    Tribute to our Founding Mother

FSTM was founded in 1993 and accredited by the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council in 2000. FSTM is proud that 100% of our graduates from the past six years have passed the North American Registry of Midwives certifying exam and  have become Florida Licensed Midwives and/or Certified Professional Midwives.

We strive to honor the challenges inherent with the transition of a woman, in any stage of life, into midwife, recognizing that this transition is somehow linked to the transition a woman experiences in birth from woman to mother.   We midwife the midwives, believing that the journey each student undertakes is a "labor" resulting in the birth of herself.

FSTM is researching the feasibility of seating a new class in January 2011.

The application deadline for January 2011 class is October 15, 2010. If we do not seat this class, your application fee will be returned to you.

The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery (FSTM) stands nestled amongst giant oak trees, in a beautifully restored Victorian Home in Gainesville, Florida.   The natural beauty of our setting and the community atmosphere creates a sense of belonging to all who study and work here.   The flow of pregnant women coming in for pre-natal exams, sounds of women in labor and newborns, first expressions add to the excitement and sense of purpose as FSTM shares its home with the Birth Center of Gainesville, the oldest Birth Center on the East Coast.
